4 New Movements You Will See at the 2016 CrossFit Games

It seems that each year the directors of CrossFit  introduce new movements and workouts to the CrossFit community. The past CrossFit Games have brought us equipment like “The Worm” and “The Pig, and the as well as “Big Bob” and the “Speed Sled”. We are no longer doing ordinary exercises like standard pushups and pullups.

CrossFitters worldwide are getting more and more elite, and that’s something to celebrate! The downside is we now have to adapt to more technical and challenging movements. Here is a list of 4 New Movements You Will See at the 2016 CrossFit Games.

1. Quadruple Unders

You’ve mastered the double under and possible witnessed “a triple,”  but that’s still inadequate. FOUR rotations is the new requirement for being elite.

2. V-Sit Hold For Time

So you held an L-sit for 45 seconds on the paralletes. Thats great! But now lets move a bit farther along down the alphabet. Be grateful Dave Castro hasn’t unleashed the “Z-sit.”

3. Toes-to-Elbows

No, you read that right. Not Toes-to-Bar, not knees-to-elbows. Toes-to-Elbows will make you reexamine your mobility. (This exercise should favour the shorter-legged athletes.)

4. Armless Rope Climbs

I’m not  sure how this works but I have a feeling Rich Froning will be good at it. Go ahead and get a head start  by working on your bite strength now.

Besides these obvious four, what new movements do you think we will see during the 2016 CrossFit Games?

How to Rope Climb for CrossFit

Rope Climbs are one skill within CrossFit that arise just enough to be stressful and enough to warrant you becoming a master! Maybe your local box doesn’t have a rope, but if you are lucky enough to have access to climb a rope how often do you really do it?

Arguably, if it weren’t for the rope climb we would be talking about Rich Froning as the Five-Time CrossFit Games Champion rather than the lazy Four-Time Champ. Taking it back to 2010, Rich Froning failed to master the rope climb in the final event, losing top spot which went to Graham Holmberg. We can tell you know, that Froning is a master of rope climbs!

It is important to learn why this gymnastic skill is important, how to scale the rope safely and efficiently while avoiding those nasty rope burns!

Learning from the best, get technical with these tutorials from CrossFit Games Veterans Jason Khalipa, Chris Spealler and Matt Chan.

Key Takeaways:

  • Protect your legs with a Shin Skin
  • Big Jump & Grab
  • Pull Knees to Elbows
  • Clamp Foot Hard

  • Side Note: Lock your legs in to save your arms when tired

Enjoy!
