Sara Sigmundsdottir Broke a Rib

Sara Sigmundsdottir hasn’t exactly had it easy lately. First, she became sick right before the CrossFit Invitational; and lately, she’s been battling pain so intense that it became hard to breathe. Now, she’s having to work around an injury more serious than she ever suspected. In a recent Instagram post, Sigmundsdottir explained what went wrong, and what her plan of action is. Get well soon, Sara!

Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth -Mike Tyson . I was faced with quite the challenge this week. There had been some pain in my shoulderblade ever since the ´Games´. In recent weeks the pain started to grow and I thought it was just because I had been on a break and now the intensity in training had been increased. Then last week something happened during a training session. I didn´t think it could possibly be serious but as the days went the pain just got worse and in the beginning of this weak it had simply become unbearable. . The plan was to go from Australia to Abu Dhabi and train there until the @dxbfitnesschamp but I decided to go to Iceland and see my doctor and physio to get this properly checked out. . A couple of X-rays and MRI scans later it was determined that my first rib is broken. The pain was so unberable because the tight muscles that are protecting the rib were hitting a bundle of nerves with all the swelling around the break and that made it so that for a few days it was even hard for me to breathe. This is just a wall that I need to climb over and I have already started it because today I am already feeling so much better, I could even pull my pants up and put my socks on ?? . Unfortunately this changes my plans, I wont be competing in Dubai and it will take the next 6-8 weeks for me to fully recover, . . I am so thankful for all the support that I´ve gotten and I´ll be back stronger than ever ?? . . ?= @0nlyfitgirls . . #Nike #NikeTraining #FitAid #RogueFitness #CompexUSA

Dave Castro Will Program More Handstand Workouts in 2018

“I can guarantee you we will see more of these (handstand walks) in the future.” These are the words of Dave Castro, the mind behind the CrossFit Games, in an interview with Rory Mckernan during the last CrossFit Invitational.

Dave implemented an obstacle course during the Invitational, which surprised a lot of competitors. But the athletes are getting better, and his imagination must figure out ways to demand more. The exercise is challenging, sure, but not for everyone. Alec Smith is looking relaxed and natural doing these handstand walks since, as he said, they are all the rage right now.

Since handstand walk obstacle courses are all the rage nowadays ?

This is not the last time we’ll see the handstand course, according to @thedavecastro. #CrossFit

Plot Twist! Dave Castro Makes a Huge Change for CF Games Teams

For teams competing at Regionals and the CrossFit Games, we’ve gotten used to seeing groups of six comprised of three men and three women. Well, Dave Castro decided to switch things up, and announced that moving forward, teams will consist of only four athletes, instead of six. He made the announcement after this past weekend’s CrossFit Invitational.

It’s apparently something that’s been on his mind for a while, and the Invitational proved it’s doable. While it might help affiliates make stronger teams, it also means two people will now be left out. That was something Rich Froning seemingly won’t stand for.

CrossFit Mayhem just announced the sixth member of their team, Tasia Percevecz, only to find out just a week later about this change. Froning’s solution is simple: make two teams. He posted something rather intriguing on his Instagram, implying that his plans are already in motion.

For those asking! #davecastroisaprick

The CrossFit Invitational

cfinvitationalheader

Team World lead by Australian’s Chad Mackay and Kara Webb scored a great upset in the recent CrossFit Invitational, taking a 24-19 victory over a big named Team USA.

Team USA consisting of Rich Froning, Jason Khalipa, Ben Smith, Lindsey Valenzuela, Val Voboril and Talayna Fortunato proved no match for Team World, consisting of Sam Briggs (U.K.), Frederik Aegidius (Denmark), Camille-Leblanc Bazinet (Canada),  Albert-Dominic Larouche (Canada), Kara Webb (Australia), and Chad Mackay (Australia).

cfteamusa

In a live broadcast around the world, the Teams competed in back to back WOD’s in Berlin, Germany. While the men’s side of The CrossFit Games has been dominated by Americans in Rich Froning, Graham Holmberg and Jason Khalipa the Women’s side is a different story. With the past three victors originating from Europe with Sam Briggs taking out 2013 and Annie Thorrisdottor back to back in 2011 & 2012. With fast approaching 10,000 affiliates world wide, CrossFit is no doubt a worldwide phenomenon.

cfteamworld

With Team World’s upset at the CrossFit Invitational 2013 in mind, it will no doubt prove for an event of EPIC proportions should it be repeated in 2014.
