CrossFit Open: Community, Competition and the Start of the Games Season
There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of the CrossFit Open.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes from around the world log in, sign up and take on the same workouts in gyms across the globe. From elite athletes chasing a CrossFit Games qualification to everyday members stepping onto the floor with friends, the Open remains the biggest participation event in fitness.
This year kicked off with Open Workout 26.1, launching the start of the 2026 CrossFit Games season and bringing the community together once again.
At Unity Performance, the energy on the gym floor was electric as athletes gathered to test their fitness, support each other and experience the unique spirit that makes the CrossFit Open so special.

What Is the CrossFit Open?
The CrossFit Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season. Over three weeks, athletes complete a series of workouts released by CrossFit HQ and submit their scores online.
But while the Open technically acts as the first step toward qualifying for the CrossFit Games, for most athletes that is not the primary motivation.
Instead, the Open has become a global community event.
Every workout release becomes a moment shared by gyms around the world. Members gather for Friday Night Lights, judges count reps, music pumps through the speakers and the entire gym rallies behind each athlete.
For many participants, the Open is about:
• Testing progress from the past year
• Trying movements or weights they may not normally attempt
• Experiencing the challenge with friends and training partners
• Being part of the wider CrossFit community
Whether you finish at the top of the leaderboard or simply complete the workout, everyone is part of the same experience.

Open Workout 26.1: A Classic Test
The first workout of the 2026 Open delivered exactly what athletes expect from an opening test.
CrossFit Open Workout 26.1 featured simple but challenging movements designed to push athletes across multiple fitness domains.
Like many Open workouts, the goal was accessibility combined with intensity. Movements were structured so athletes of all levels could participate through scaled or RX divisions while still delivering a serious challenge.
From elite competitors pushing the pace to first-time Open participants simply trying to finish the workout, 26.1 tested conditioning, pacing and mental toughness.
And as always with the Open, the workout looked simple on paper — until the clock started.

The Atmosphere at Unity Performance
At Unity Performance, the CrossFit Open brought the entire gym together.
Athletes lined the gym floor waiting for their heats. Judges stood ready to count reps and ensure standards were met. Friends gathered around cheering through every round.
Moments like these are what make the Open special.
You’ll see:
First-time competitors stepping onto the competition floor
Athletes hitting personal best performances
Members pushing through the final reps with the whole gym cheering
And once the final rep is done, the entire room celebrates together.
This sense of shared challenge is one of the reasons the Open continues to grow year after year.

Reebok: The Original CrossFit Shoe
Over the years, one brand has become deeply connected to the CrossFit community — Reebok.
From the early days of the CrossFit Games through to today, the Reebok Nano has become one of the most recognised training shoes in the sport.
Built for the demands of high intensity functional training, the Nano has evolved alongside the sport itself. Athletes rely on its stability for lifts, durability for rope climbs and versatility across the constantly varied workouts that define CrossFit.
At gyms like Unity Performance during the Open, it’s common to see athletes lining up for their heat wearing the latest generation of Reebok Nano trainers as they tackle the week’s challenge.
For many in the community, the Nano remains a shoe synonymous with CrossFit training.

The Open Is About More Than Competition
While the CrossFit Games season technically begins with the Open, for most athletes the goal is not qualifying for the next stage.
The real goal is much simpler.
Show up.
Test your fitness.
Push your limits.
And experience the workout alongside your community.
Whether it’s your first Open or your tenth, each workout becomes a benchmark moment in your fitness journey.
With 26.1 complete, athletes now turn their focus to the next two weeks of workouts as the 2026 CrossFit Open continues.
One workout down.
Two more to go.
